Kathak dance - by Dipanwita Sengupta and Group
This performance is based on the Lucknow Gharana style of dance,
opening with a pure Nritta, consisting of bols like tora, paran,
chakradhars and tatkaar. This Dance Number, based on Teental, or
sixteen Beats, prepares the dancer’s body and mind to enter into
more intricate and vigorous movements and footwork. The Emphasis
on the gentle rhythmic movements of the feet, neck, torso, face,
and eyes establishes the mood. This will be followed by dance to
different semi-classical song. Then it will conclude with a Tarana.
This is a stylized song, sung with syllables and words like "Dere Na"
and "dere dere", This is a pure dance number filled with rhythmic footwork,
and subtle "abhinaya".
The dancers are Urmi Sen and the disciples of Nritya Shiromoni Guru Bandana Sen – Sangita Nandy & Dipanwita Sengupta |

Bengali Drama - “Sandhya Tara” by Manoj Mitra
"Sandhya Tara" or "The Evening Star" is a play with a touch of satire by noted playwright Manoj Mitra about the uncertainties and dilemmas of a couple in the twilight years of their lives. The play opens in the balcony of their now dilapidated house at dusk. Kumudshankar, the patriarch, is seen mourning his friend’s sudden demise while his better half Ashalata contemplates selling off their house and spending their last days with their eldest son, Buju at Bhilai. Their conversation reveals their loneliness in spite of having three children, all apparently too engrossed in their own lives to come and stay with them.
Just as Kumudshankar announces his decision to sell off the house, all his children arrive with their spouses to justify their demands for money. Bitterness creeps up in the family as each fight for the lion’s share. Kumudshankar is shocked at his sons’ and daughter’s attitude. So, what does the patriarch do now to spend his last days with his wife in peace and with self-respect?
Watch on the tensions, comedy and drama at this household as the climax unfolds. Chityaranajan Mukherjee plays the septuagenarian Kumudshankar and Anindita Mukherjee supports him as Ashalata, the wife. Suvrangshu Ghosh is Buju, the elder son who comes in with his wife, Suroma played by Devarchana Banerji, all the way from Bhilai to demand their fair share. Mahuya Chatterjee plays Rekha, the elderly couple’s daughter, who has been married in Shillong and who is prompt in arriving with her husband Shibnath played by Partha Mitra the moment she learns of the sale. Chiranjit Acharya as Chottu is the couple’s second son. That is the family, complete with a loyal servant Gora, played by Jeet Chahal.

Children's Program - 'Sabujer Abhijaan'
CHILD is the visionary in 'Sabujer Abhijaan'. As the very title suggests it reflects in a kind of a kaleidoscope the aura of childhood, its different moods, dreams and desires, hopes and aspirations, joy and sorrow all presented through an interleaved sequence of recitations, songs and dances in a form of a panoramic narrative spanned over three contiguous sections.
The first phase deals with the CHILDS apathy towards books and time bound studies, the subsequent parental pressure and the consequent loss of the fragrance of childhood.
The second phase deals with HIS obsession and love towards games and sports.
The third section depicts the vibrancy of childhood, its fun loving merry go round character. The innovative childish tantrum forms the essence of this phase.
We acknowledge Bratati Bandopadhyay's work “Hip Hip Hurrah” as the source of this program.
