Dipanwita Sengupta,
an engineer from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, started her dance career at an age of six. She got
her early training from Anima Basak-Majumder in the Lucknow Gharana Style of Kathak and Rabindra Nritya.
After the completion of Senior Diploma in Kathak from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, she learnt
from Suchandra Banerjee at "The Nupur Dance Academy" and later from Nritya Shiromoni Guru Bandana Sen.
Apart from participating in programmes through "The Nupur Dance Academy", Dipanwita has danced at
prestigious programmes conducted by other organisations and institutions of Kolkata, Delhi & USA. Some of
those are Dishari Award Association, Kolkata Doordarshan, Pittsburg State University, NABC,
Konark Dance School & MKK-USA. She had danced for consecutive two years, in the drama - "Kshudito Pashan",
a production of Debraj Roy & Anuradha Roy. She had participated in "MahaJiboner Pathey" from
The Nupur Dance Academy - the first dance drama on the life of Subhash Chandra Bose to
commemorate his 100th birthday.
She was invited to conduct a lecture-demonstration cum worshop at the Missouri Southern State College
on "The Classical Dance Tradition Of India" through different elements of Kathak.
Currently, Dipanwita runs a school "The Nupur Dance Academy (California)" in Bay Area,
where she imparts training to both children and adults in Kathak, folk dances and Rabindra Nritya.
She had her first Annual programme of her school in Sep 2005,
where she co-directed the dance drama "Ganga".
She has been actively choreographying and participating in programmes for Pashchimi and
many other Bay Area organizations such as Sanskriti, Prabasi, KGP-IIT and Zee Heritage India.
